Still a valuable book on missions. My major complaint is that while it is supposed to be a history of Christian missions, the vast majority covered is Western and Protestant in scope. Because of this, only the first 50 pages covers the first years of missions history, with little coverage of missions by Eastern churches at any time/5(13).

But it is the stewardship of the gospel that remains utterly unique to the Christian church. We must keep first things first. That is the priority of Christian missions. 2. The mission belongs to God, for his glory, on his terms.

God intends not only that his mission would go forward but that it would go forward on his terms.This may lead to change which may only be superficial conformity and which leads to believers having compartmentalized lives.

9 Just as cultural.Based on this, missions has two main goals. The first is to "make disciples." A disciple is a person who learns from and strives to emulate another. Christian missions entails teaching others the truth about Jesus, showing them their need for Jesus, and, once the Holy Spirit has drawn them, encouraging them to live according to Jesus' teachings.
